Road to Vacation

Yes Lou...I do feel better but then it is the weekend, and the week may bring new ill feeling. I believe I am allergic to work. I am so looking forward to vacation.

I have been stuck with November as the month of choice for vacation and have no idea where to go. I guess I have time to figure it out but at that time of year, it is difficult to find somewhere fun. Cause on the one hand you have one part of the world battling hurricanes and that is no fun, and the other part facing cold weather. No fun there either. I don't necessarily need a beach vacation cause I can go to Tobago for that. But would love good weather, maybe some shopping, sightseeing, some fun activities, ease of getting there, cost-effective, safe and fun for singles - since it would be a solo spinster trip, and just general enjoyment.

So what is an overworked, hurricane-hating, anti-freezing, adventure-loving Trini spinster then do for vacation, and where oh where does she go?

Vegas just came to mind...hmmm.

Not all there

I have not been feeling 100% the past few days. Been more tired than usual...which is VERY tired and been experiencing dizziness and heart racing. I am hoping it's just a case of needing some rest or maybe too many rum breaks after work, though I have not had any so far this week. lol. In any event, going to try to get to bed before 9.30 tonight. That would be an amazing feat!

Open the skies

Trinidad only has 2 seasons - dry and rainy. For 6 months out of the year, the place is Caribbean-esque - blue skies, fluffy white clouds, blazing hot sun, lots of chicks in shorts, happy Tamale.

Then come June 1, sour Tamale emerges - and so do dark skies, menacing clouds, thunderstorms every frickin' second. Yesterday I had to drive to and from work in white rain and God I hate that. Of course before that I had to pull myself out of a cosy bed, with the welcoming pitter patter sounds which make snuggling under the blankie sooooo enjoyable. I had to sit in a room with other people, listening to lectures, while sleep weather raged outside. I had to sit at a lunch table with a girl I cannot stand cause there was no escape cause it was wet and cold and rainy outside. I had to get my hair wet as I tried to get my gate open to get into the driveway.

Yep. I am not a fan of the rain. It's just that simple.

Ice cream hunting adventure...

Yesterday, after a day of total sloth, I headed down to the neighbourhood Hi-Lo to pick up some ice cream and other essentials. So I am walking through the supermarket and there is a huge white dude also shopping and we happen to be in the same aisles at the same time for most of the time I was there.

So I am at the ice cream section and looking for just what I wanted and he appears as well. No fucking surprise there cause he is enormous and that girth did not come from eating carrots. Note to self: lay off the ice cream.

So anyway, I spot what I am looking for in the section he is standing at, and walk over to get it. As I am about to reach down and grab the prize -

"Are you following me?"

Am I what? Are you shitting me? I seriously had to take a step back and reassess the question. Me following you? Why? You ain't hot. And the dude was SERIOUS! OMG.

So I told him no I was not following him and his tone disturbed me so I had to add, "you wish I were following you, buddy", and grabbed my ice cream and went back to my cart. I mean, I dunno who told Free Willy he was hot shit - maybe it's because local people put white people on some kinda pedestal and make them all think they are hot shit, but friend...no. Ugh. It reminded me of the night at the bar and how some of the most unlikely looking expats were the centre of attention cause some of these gold digging girls know their salaries are in US$$ and GBP. So I guess he thought I was one of these chickenhead girls. Ummm...did he see the tub of expensive ice cream in my cart? Did he see a man next to me to pay for it? I mean...seriously.

The thought of him naked disgusts me and I only actively follow people I want to get naked. lol

I stood in the express line and waited to pay for my stuff and as I look over, who should be standing there but Flour Boy, staring at me with daggers in his eyes. I should have asked him if he were following ME and called security!

The weekend

John Legend in concert in POS, Trinidad - Thursday June 18, 2009

And since blogger sucks, I am back to being a public blog. So certain entries have thus disappeared or been edited, like this one. Sorry.

This week had been all about getting ready for the long weekend which included getting ready for John Legend in concert in Port of Spain. I will not give a review cause I have already done so in another forum but the concert was awesome and mind blowing and lived up to my very high expectations.

Now the rest of the month involves me recuperating from a financial crisis of monumental proportions. After all expenses, I am scared to see my credit card statement. So I am home for the rest of this weekend, reading and plotting my next plan of action. Oh, I forgot to mention the awesomely hot handbag I bought on a whim after my friend came to my office on Thursday morning trying to offload 3 bags she bought in NY. I saw the bag and it just screamed Tamale! And I answered the call...

Sadly. For my wallet. Not for my vanity. And the lonelier I feel, the more money I spend so this Mr Right better come along soon before I end up in the poorhouse. I just need the shoes to go with the bag.

Will probably also cook today...have not really gone Emeril in the kitchen in a long time. Last time I cooked was weeks ago and I did some sensual things with some pork ribs.

Other than that, not much else going on here. I have been online for the past 2 hours, 30mins, so it is really time to get off and get back to real life.

I can only be me

Jeans are great!

So I met up with some girlfriends on Friday for drinks. Now, Fridays are usually casual dress days, and for me, that means the company shirt and some comfy pants, and I still rock the heels, so it's not too bad. One of the girls, happened to spot a photo of me on my mobile (I am single with no kids, and no dog- who else am I gonna have on my phone but myself???) and told me flat out that I was wasting my beauty. I thought it was sort of rude that she told me that I had the potential to look really hot but chose not to. I mean, what was this? I told her I did not see the need to look like a diva every single day of the week. I wake up at 3.30 every morning - it's a miracle I do as well as I do. I thought I looked pretty alright but she intimated that I could do better. Wow. I barely knew this person too, but whatever.

She asked, So what if the man of your dreams walked in here right now?

Suggesting I looked terrible right then and there, perhaps?? Well, I did not bother to mention to her that despite my lack of enthusisasm to run home, shower and primp as she did, to sit in a smoky bar to drink beers and eat chicken wings, I could still catch a man's eye with my natural beauty. I thought it would be a wasted conversation.

I cannot look like Miss Universe every single day. It is just not possible. I love glam but I am not a glamzilla. I rock one pair of jeans most weekends cause they are comfy, and I accessorise as best as I can. I comb my hair back cause it is low maintenance to do so. When a Caribbean breeze hits my hair, I cannot be fixing it all day long. I like low maintenance. I don't wear lipstick for the same reason. I have not professionally done my nails in eons but a good home buff and polish works for me. In my case, life happens. I have a hectic job, making my week a hectic week, making any attempts to look like Barbie impossible. I can only be me at any given time and Tamale = very simple most of the time. Simple but simply hot. lol. I think I can rock glasses and unsupermodel hair and look hot still. I think so! Don't get me wrong, I can go full glam and I have different versions of me - work me, home me, sporty me, total glambot me. I cannot be the glambot 24/7. I don't have that kinda time or money.

So yes, thank you for the compliments on the dress below, but chances are if you ever meet me, I will be in a pair of jeans and a cute blouse, with my hair in a bun and I will be wearing my glasses. I will not be sloppy - this I can assure you - but I will be pretty casual, yet in my own way. If this means I cannot get a man, well, then something is terribly wrong in the world if men only want a made-up, beauty-obsessed, weave-wearing, coloured contacts sportin', false nail clawin' caricature.of beauty.

Be back with you shortly

It's been very exhausting in Tamale-world this week. But tonight I am taking a break and going out with friends to watch the football game that Trinidad and Tobago are almost sure to lose vs Mexico IN frickin' Mexico. But it's the night before a public holiday, everyone is out tonight in red, and I have not gone out in eons, and where there is football there are...

MEN!

I have downed a cup of coffee to keep me alert, and will post again in the morning - as I have all day to myself. Just wanted to let you know I was alive. And fat...saw myself in a store mirror today. Disturbing.

Shutting it down down down - Pt II

See this woman?

This woman went out on a date on Sunday evening. Her male companion said she went to her car and never came back. He called the police when he realised she was missing. After hours and hours of questioning and I suspect physical persuasion aka a good beating, he confessed to killing her and gave the cops the info which led them to find her body today. She was 40 years old. Mother of 4 children. Her 17 year old daughter had to identify her body today.

People think I am too cynical when it comes to love and dating, and trying new things aka online dating. I make jokes about the psychos out there and about how I imagine I would meet some dude and he would rape me or kidnap me or kill me. And I get "Oh Tamale, you are so negative."

This woman met a man online and after chatting with him for an undisclosed period of time, she went out with him on Sunday evening. She picked him up and they headed to the beach. This was their first date in person. He killed her that same evening. Beautiful woman with a job and kids. What was missing? Companionship. So she probably was too busy with 4 kids to go out and meet men and turned to the internet, where she met her end.

A distraught Daniella Boysie, 17, yesterday pleaded for the public’s help in locating her missing mother. “I want my mummy to come home. I want her home alive and well. I am writing exams and still have Geography and Biology to do next week. This has affected my studies,” the teen cried. Boysie is a sixth form student of Fyzabad Anglican Secondary School.

This could have been me, minus the kids. So no more Tamale being idle on these nutty sites with men in blue speedos professing their loneliness and desire to show me their sugar stick. Shutting it down. These fucking men make being single look like Utopia! Real life men. Cyber men. Men - they seem more and more like a lost cause in my life. The bitterness grows. I just need me a good loyal fluffy dog it seems.
