Besides the whole overworked/underpaid thing, one good thing about my job is the sisterhood. Now I still hold true to the initial conclusion that where there are a lot of vaginas in one small space, there will always be a lot of drama. I will not lay open my heart to any of these women any time soon. But...I am pleased to know to be reminded that I am not alone, and that the Twilight Zone music does not cue only when I walk into the room. I am not the only aberration in a world where a "real life" involves planning weddings and subjecting my waistline to stretchmarks and my nose to chronic widening, just to give birth.Where taking a trip to France by oneself is not considered a real life, but merely "fooling around". I was surprised, via a random coffee break, how much in common I have with these girls - all beautiful, all brilliant, all hot, all single, all independent and not needy or begging for a man to "complete" them. I wanted to do a cartwheel but just sat there and smiled to myself. And I am not the only one who can sit in a coffee shop with a book by myself and sip on a mochaccino.Or book a nie dinner, get all dressed up and go dine alone. Not the only one who can go to the cinema without a partner. Someone asked one girl how she could go to the movies alone and she said, "With a blanket." Ahhh...my hero! I am not the only one who jumps on a plane alone. Or can spend an entire day in the mall alone. Oh, my heart was bursting with joy and redemption. And when I told my mother about my alliance?
Allyuh just idle!
Ah yes...it's best to keep this alliance secret from the mothers/wannabe grandmothers of the world. The secret alliance of the high heels!

I still love taking a novel to a restaurant, and do it as often as I can. Movies too. There's something so freeing about it.

ReplyDeleteAnywaaaay. Sometimes moving to a new workplace has unexpected bonuses like that. It sounds like your new work colleagues are much more on your wavelength than your old ones.
